Twin turbines on TVU's Westel House

Thames Valley University installed a pair of Proven wind turbines on top of Westel House, the tallest building in central Ealing at 65m above see level, in October 2004. Funded entirely by TVU as part of a programme of energy saving and sustainability initiatives, they are thought to have been the first building-mounted wind turbines in urban London.

The turbines are mounted on 6.5m high masts, have fully rotating heads, 3.5m diameter self -feathering blades and face an average wind speed of 6.1m/sec. The combined electrical output of the two turbines is 5kW and they produce around 2% of the electrical requirement for Westel House per annum.
